Browsing through the archives i found a bundle of files that shared a similar theme - (Sleeping wildlife, Passive wildlife, Natural animals, Natures ally etc) it seems that being a friend to animals is a popular idea, so why not create a proper ranger mod - complete with its own magic, its own fighting style, its own custom armour (something along the lines of an aragorn look) and a scripting that allows rangers to become friends with nature along with quests to protect nature from poachers and daedra. Allies could include an eagle (that brings you information on hurt animals) wolf (a loyal companion that can guard wounded animals whilst you gather medicinal herbs) weasel (scout unit, that will work ahead of you providing a form of detect l ...

In a recent thread on the official Bethsoft forums about OBSE, a mini-discussion about virtual CD/DVD images arose. Someone linked to an older thread that shows Bethesda, yet again, having both fundamental ignorance about technology and disgusting arrogance in their own flawed policies. In this thread, a user was asking for help identifying why his game was stuttering, and posted his DXDiag. Eventually, a moderator, Dogsbody, came by, and said the following.

Find the software that installed this device:

Drive: F:
Model: SCSIVAX DVD/CD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device
Driver: c:\windows\system32\drivers\cdrom.sys, 5.01.2600.2180 (English), 8/4/2004 12:00:00, 49536 bytes

Then eliminate it before continuing. Thi ...

For some reason beyond my comprehension, Microsoft decided to disable the tilde key (~) when they have infrared turned on. On most desktop computers this is not a problem because they don't have IR capability. However, for laptops and media center desktops, as well as those desktops that do have an infrared receiver/transmitter it is a nuisance.

On the media center PC, the simplest fix is to unplug the IR from the PC. The tilde immediately returns to use.

On those with an IR that can not be simply unplugged, you will need to go into the control panel to disable IR.

On an XP system: Vista will be similar
Start>Settings>Control Panel
click on 'System' then the Hardware tab, then the 'Device Man ...

Does anyone else notice how the Elderscrolls Forums (now the Bethsoft Game Forums) have really really strict to the point of dumb censorship policies?

Consider the recent example of Morroblivion. Bethsoft's bored legal team decided they needed to do something to justify the obscene salary they no doubt get paid. So what do they do? "Well we can't stop pirates from pirating the game, but at least we can stop a website from hosting a tool that converts meshes. We are the warriors of justice and liberty!". So Morroblivion gets pulled from the internet.

The news hits the forums. Rather than allow the members to discuss the legality and purpoae of the tool amongest themselves what do the moderators (no doubt order ...

I do not expect this blog to be popular...

and it could possibly hurt some feelings, though that is not my intention!

I didn't think it was right for me to try and post this in the Forums as a topic... so I decided to try to say my peace here.

I don't know why... and can't understand WHY, you guys have posted some of the mods you have! I will not single any mod or modder out... but some of the releases are just a total waste of space - to be direct!

I will agree that it is cool when you learn how to change a .ini setting, turn blue to green in a texture, or make a console command act like a spell... but just because you have finally learned how to manipulate the game doesn't mean t ...

To keep my sanity, I'm creating this page to keep up with all the links to everything I've done or need to "check" from time to time. Others have also requested that my list be visible, so here it is.

A blog.

Captain's Log: Save 1483 - Myrmaad - Love Suite Room, Level 72, Playing Time 1002.28.09

After 1000 hours invested in saved game files so far and literally hundreds of active mods (some 350 plus), Meris has finally hit the important milestone of executing her first pre-meditated murder, and she has also recently decided to try her hand at the arena games as well.

Due to some mod choices and mishaps, the Dark Brotherhood questline remains out of this character's reach. I would have to return to a savegame from about 200 hours ago I guess, (Captain's log: Save 1303 - Myrmaad - The Black Cat, Level 72, Playing Time 813.29.41). This was immediately before I departed for the Shivering Isles, and encounte ...

The Elder Scrolls IV, to me, is by far the best game I've played aside from DDR. You have the opportunity to escape the everyday hoo-hah of real life. You can pour yourself into a wonderful game of fantasy, where you control almost every aspect.

And the mods! Oh, Lord, the mods!

There are some incredibly talented modders here. I don't even need to mention names; they stand out enough as-is.

I was told by an old modder friend that 99.9% of mods for ANY game are made for the creator, and it's up to the creator whether their mods get shared. The same is true for myself and many modders I've been lucky enough to chat with.

So you can only imagine how horrid it feels when you pour your heart and soul i ...

Has anyone else noticed how the screenshots you take seem to lose the impact they had for you while you were actually playing the game?

There are times while playing that I'll see something and think, "Wow, thats gonna be a nice screenshot." Then I open the console and remove the menus, maybe toggle the fly camera so I can get a better angle and then press 'the button' to take the picture. "That's gonna be good." I think to myself and go about my merry way slaughtering my way through Tamriel's guts. At the end of my playing session I open my FRAPS folder and look at my images again and the good feeling's gone. Sometimes it doesn't go until I've already posted the screenshot on the Image Share section and by ...
